Proof of Heaven: I Found Myself in Iceland

Seljalandsfoss is a waterfall in Iceland that I had the pleasure of visiting with my husband, Matthew, in the summer of 2017.

The trip will forever stay with me. In many ways, I found it embodied who I was and who I was to discover I would yet become. Specifically, this waterfall holds a special place in my heart.

Seljalandsfoss drops 60 meters (196.85 feet), and we caught it at the perfect moment to see a spherical double rainbow. The sheer power of the water — part of the Seljalands River that originates from the volcanic glacier Eyjafallajökull — juxtaposed with the serenity of the rainbow, as well as the shrouded path through the cavern behind the waterfall, to create an indescribable feeling of something larger than myself.

Since that trip, my husband and I have often discussed Iceland and the Icelandic natives’ way of life, which aligns with our own ideals and values. We will definitely return.

In the meantime, I take heart in the Icelandic phrase “þetta reddast,” which translates to, “It will be resolved.” It (insert whatever it is you) will be resolved.
